Anyone visiting the Lobero’s beautifully renovated rear courtyard is bound to wonder about the single stone nestled beneath an impressive pepper tree which bears the engraving,

“This Tree dedicated October 29, 2004.
In Memory Of William Patrick Tennity

Michael Towbes
On June 19, 2006, one hundred close friends of the Towbes family and the Lobero Theatre gathered at Birnam Wood Country Club to honor one of Santa Barbara’s most admired philanthropists, Michael Towbes. Esteemed choreographer Margaret Jenkins, Lobero Board Member David Anderson, and Michael’s new bride Anne paid tribute to this beloved member of the community, and guests enjoyed a dance program performed by Nancy Colahan and Christopher Pilafian, both of whom are on the faculty at UCSB. Sylvia Weller
The Lobero has always held a special place in Sylvia Weller’s heart. “Just to walk into this little jewel box of a theatre felt so special to me,” she explains. “It has a tremendous mystique.” She spent a dozen years on the Lobero Board, through some of the most financially trying times in the theatre’s history.
